Maenam Beach is a substantial length of beach front in the northern coast of Koh Samui. It has an authentic village feel and there are shops, markets, local Thai restaurants as well as a wide offering of hotels, resorts and spas on the beach. The beach is well regarded for its soft white sand and clean water providing good swimming throughout the year and is popular with local expatriate families.
For dining and spas, select from a good choice of high end resorts for open air places or you can take part in the traditional Koh Samui with its more small and simple Thai resorts and beach bungalow restaurants offering breakfast, lunch and dinner.
Maenam is home to the 18 hole Santiburi Championship golf course with spectacular sea views of the island from its unique club house viewpoint. The food and drink up there is pretty good, so it’s worth the climb even if you’re not a golfer.
A kite surfing school operates on the beach in Maenam – Samui’s latest craze, and there are the traditional water sports, too – windsurfing etc. You can hire sun beds and buy ice creams, and there’s a pier with boats to neighbouring islands. Santiburi resort and Napasai are the major resorts in Maenam area, the latter being slightly out of the main area and operated by Orient Express Hotels.
